AGM for 2006-2007 on 21 December 2007 [ 21st December, 2007 ]
The AGM was held in the library of the school. The Secretary’s Annual Report was read and accepted. The accounts were passed unanimously and adopted. The following were elected to the committee –

The Future is Entrepreneurship – Lecture meet at Conclave on October 12, 2007 [ 12th October, 2007 ]
Many of the BHS Alumni are Industrialists, Entrepreneurs and many operate small businesses. Many of them joined their parents businesses or started their own after doing B. Com in college. Many have been successful and many are struggling to grow. Growing from 20 to 50 and from 50 to 200 employees is not easy and that is why the BHSA committee felt that a program on Entrepreneurship would be useful for the members who are already in business and who plan to take a plunge sooner or later.
The program was held in Conclave and was very successful. The members were very appreciative of the speakers and wanted more of such programs in future. In addition to Alumni, we had Ms. Rita Bibra, Secretary General of Vidya Mandir Society, Ms. Mukta Nain, Principal of school, Ms. Kaveri Dutt, Head Mistress of Junior School, and a teacher of Commerce department.
The speakers were eminent Entrepreneurs –
Mr. Shoummo K. Acharya, Charter Member and President of TiE Kolkata, one of the leading professionals in the field of transportation infrastructure and Logistics is currently a member of the Working Group of the Planning Commission of India, to consider issues relating to logistics in the 11th Plan. He is an engineer, entrepreneur and founder of VI eTrans Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. A.V. Iyengar, Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs, (TiE) Kolkata who is spearheading the Entrepreneurship for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) as well as creation of wealth by Making Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramids. He is chartered Accountant and retired as Managing Director of Organon India, a multi-national pharmaceutical company and has headed many professional and social service organizations.
Mr. Shyam S. Aggarwal, President BHSA was the first Executive Director of The Indus Entrepreneur as well as its Past President. He spoke on Entrepreneurship and fielded questions. He is an engineer, entrepreneur and founder of ABSO Software and has lead many professional and social service organizations.
Mr. B.K. Jhawar, President of BHS Governing Body and Chairman of Usha Martin Group shared his experiences and remarked about the importance of Entrepreneurship. He congratulated the committee for organizing a program of such a quality and suggested that we do such a program for school students also.
Ms. Mukta Nain, Principal of BHS, Mrs. Madhumita Sengupta, Commerce Teacher and Mrs. Loveleen Saigal, PRO BHS interacted with Mr. Shoummo Acharya regarding summer training of students in Industry and Mr. Acharya readily agreed to organize the same for few students and asked them to remain in touch with him on the subject.
The meeting was followed by cocktails and dinner. What followed was totally unexpected. Alumni stayed back till closing hours of the club and enjoyed fellowship, camaraderie and session of jokes and songs. The spirit of school days came alive and the members were very happy about the program and wanted one every three months.
All in all it was a very successful, useful and an enjoyable evening. More |

Career Guidance Program 2007 on June 29 & 30, 2007 [ 29th June, 2007 ]

Career Planning Program - Career by Choice and Not by Chance. Deciding the right career at the right time is very important as there is a galaxy of career options today and students get confused and find it difficult to choose. Selection in accordance with ones interest and capability and collection of information about different Careers and how to prepare for them is important. Birla High School Alumni organized a two day career planning workshop for the students of 11 and 12 on 29 & 30 June 2007. The following speakers from different fields came and enlightened the students with their share of knowledge and experience covered the following topics –

- Mr. Dipankar Chatterjee, Senior Partner, L.B. Jha & Co on Finance - CA and Costing
- Mr. Deepak Baahl, Founder VP BHSA & Advisor, HHI Group on Hospitality / Tourism
- Mr. N. Sitaraman, Past Director ITC Ltd. on Legal & Company Secretary.
- Mr. Sidhartha Mukherjee, Vice President, Cognizant Technologies on IT & ITES
- Mr. Lalit R. Gabhane, Specialist, Corporate EHS, ITC Ltd. on Industrial Safety
- Mr. Anjan Raichaudhuri, Professor, IIM Kolkata on Entrepreneurship
- Mr. S. Ravi, Director, E-Biz Technologies on Emerging Opportunities & Pitfalls
- Mr. Hardeep Singh, Sr. President, Polar Industries on Marketing, Selling and Advertising
- Mr. Shyam Aggarwal, Director ABSO Software and President BHSA on How to be Successful & BHS Alumni
The students found the program very informative and useful. Ms. Mukta Nain welcomed all the students, the Alumni members and the Speakers. Amongst the many Alumni present was Mr. B.K. Jhawar of 1951 batch who presented the memento to Mr. Anjan Raichauwdhuri of IIM Kolkata. More |

School Annual Day on 10th and 11th May 2007 [ 10th May, 2007 ]
The school students were complemented for excellent Music, Dance, Skits and Plays put up by them at the Annual Day celebration. On behalf of BHSA, prizes were distributed on both days by members of the Alumni. On the first day prizes were distributed by R Adm. Rajeev Paralikar and Mr. Surendra Tapuria (1954) and on the 2nd day by Mr. Shyam Aggarwal and Mr. Partho Dutta. M/s V.K. Neotia, P.K. Chowbey and Rajendra Raja attended the program. Sushil Sethia had distributed an award instituted by an alumnus Kedar Nath Banerjee.
Mr. Harsh Drolia of Class XII and Sayandev Paul of Class X received Alumni Trophies for best student awards. A student each from Classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and XI received the most Improved Student award of a shield and book vouchers. This award is given to students who improve their % marks the maximum in the class between the first term and the final exams. More |
